Water Department

History – The City of Groesbeck’s original water treatment plant was built in 1939 through a federal government grant program.  This original plant continued to operate until 2002. During this 63 year time period many incidents occurred that would prove to be critical to the City’s future water supply.  One of these being that the City managed to obtain more water rights on the Navasota River through the legal court system.  This river is the main source of water for the City.  In 2002 the water plant was completely re-designed and re-built to reflect modern technology in water treatment to meet new and tougher standards passed down from EPA.

Today – In 2013 the City continues to operate the water plant built in 2002.  The City has recently installed a new ultraviolent radiation treatment process designed by KSA engineers.  This system is designed to eliminate taste and odor problems in drinking water and has proven to be very effective.  This system also is very effective in the removal of viruses and bacteria.  The plant is permitted to treat 2 million gallons of drinking water per day.  The average daily production is about 600,000 gallons per day.  The City has the ability to store up to 1.3 million gallons of drinking water in various storage tanks.  The water plant is currently operated by 6 state licensed Water Treatment Plant Operators through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.  The plant is in operation 365 days a year.
